heavy rains, which send torrents of water down rivers and valleys, flooding isolated communities.

stumbling down the hillside, looking up at the sunlight piercing through the heavy rain.

the water is rising in the deep silence, the steady trickle of water sounds so familiar, sparkling blue-green water.

shadow-cast trees surrounding her, twisting tree branches some swirling beneath the surface of the moving water streamside.

upon reaching the trees, only a short distance from a waterfall, she pauses and bends down, as she rests at the edge of the water, hanging from a branch above the stream, far down the hillside, the warmth of the summer air greets her.

she holds onto the tree for balance and gently strokes her fingertips through the flowing water, the tree rough like sandpaper had rotted from old age, the bark giving way, soon nothing was left but an empty stump

struggling to pull herself up from the raging water, no branches to grab and fresh rainwater trickling down her face, the sound of water sloshing from beneath the rocks and around the large boulders of the slope.

her now ripped clothes clinging to her wet skin, her knuckles gripping and bruising, her body falls back into the cold, rushing water.

as she drags herself out of the raging stream, the dark clouds descend on her, blotting out the light from above.

she stands in front of the waterfall. she looks out over the vast emptiness, the sky dotted with streaks of cumulus clouds, glowing white in the glow of the sun.
